Academy looking for new members
A SOCCER Academy for girls in Lurgan is looking for new members.
Four months ago, a Girls Soccer Academy was established in Lurgan with 20 girls of all abilities taking part and training together to develop into a strong team - even competing against rival teams in the area.
The academy was established on the North Lurgan MUGA by the sports development department of Craigavon Borough Council - as part of the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) Sports Project - and with support from the community in the area.
Running from September to December, the girls aged six to 13 took part in two coaching sessions each week learning new skills and playing as a team from one of the council’s highly-qualified and experienced MUGA Sports Coaches. After 12 weeks of training, the team then took part in a series of friendly matches throughout the borough, ending with a big match against Lurgan Town Girls at Lurgan Town Arena.
Following a winter break the Academy will be starting again in February and would like to welcome any newcomers into the ranks.
If anyone is interested in joining the Girls Soccer Academy then contact the Council’s MUGA Sports Co-ordinator Alex Clifford on 0751 560 7463.
