Extra funds for the homeless are welcomed

LURGAN Councillor Liam Mackle has welcomed the announcement of an extra £95,000 funding for the homeless.

This additional money from the Department of Social Development will be administered by the ‘Council for the Homeless’, an umbrella organisation for the homeless sector.

Mr Mackle said the ‘Council for the Homeless’ would distribute this funding amongst those organisations that work with and for the homeless.

“Not to have a home of your own is bad enough but as temperatures drop and nights grow colder and damper the plight of the homeless also grows. This additional money will be invaluable to those organisations that work on the frontline and deal on a daily basis with the difficulties involved in this problem.

“The funding will be of significant benefit in making provision for individuals and families who find themselves homeless during this festive season.”
