Goblin King of Hobbit fame visits Rushmere

WITH the movie award season in full swing, Rushmere Shopping Centre in Craigavon was the unexpected destination for one of The Hobbit’s biggest stars - the Goblin King - which arrived on Tuesday.

Played by Barry Humphries in the three-times Oscar-nominated hit film, the leader of the goblins arrived in the heart of Craigavon as a giant, 10-feet-high sculpture which was produced by artists from D-Signs+Displays based in Coalisland.

Hundreds of surprised shoppers marvelled at the life-like Goblin, which will be featured prominently in the centre from now until Sunday, January 20.

Rushmere is inviting all movie enthusiasts down to the centre for a closer look of the Goblin King. However, the popular personality isn’t the only Hollywood character gracing Rushmere this week as the Emerald Garrison, a Star Wars fan club, will also be patrolling the mall this Saturday, January 19.

Shoppers can expect to see a mixture of popular fiction characters, including Storm Troopers and even Darth Vader himself, invade the centre to raise money for Buddy Bear, a Dungannon-based charity which helps children with cerebral palsy and motor disorders.

Martin Walsh, Centre Manager at Rushmere Shopping Centre, said: “We’re delighted to welcome these popular movie characters to the mall. The Goblin King sculpture is seriously impressive and definitely worth a visit. The fact that we will end a Hollywood-inspired week with a fundraising event for Buddy Bear is a fantastic way to kick off 2013 for the centre.

“This action packed week is sure to be lots of fun for all the family.”
