THE first ever Pride of Craigavon awards have been launched by Craigavon Borough Council.

They will recognise and celebrate the outstanding work and dedication of community groups across the borough.

Taking place on Tuesday, March 19 at the Civic Centre, the inaugural event will showcase a wide range of local community groups who undertake vital work throughout Craigavon and particular in their local communities. Awards up for grabs on the night will include the Community Newcomer Award, the Age Sector Community Award, Creative Community Initiative Award and the Safer Craigavon Award to name but a few.

There are nine award categories in total which are open to all community groups across the borough.

Nomination forms should be completed and submitted by 4pm on Thursday, January 31. Forms can be obtained by contacting Susan Burns on 3831 2540 or susan.burns@craigavon.gov.uk

Chairperson of Craigavon Borough Council’s Development Committee, Councillor Darryn Causby, said: “The Pride of Craigavon Awards are a wonderful opportunity to champion all the good work which is taking place throughout the Borough by our dedicated community groups.

“Over 100 community groups based throughout Craigavon work tirelessly to enrich the quality of life for residents, communities and visitors and these awards are the perfect way to recognise their achievements.

“I would encourage all local community development groups to enter for a chance to win one of these prestigious awards.”

This initiative is funded by the Department for Social Development through the Community Support Plan.
