Playing field conditions
PLANS were afoot to give cricket players a toilet in February 1967.
At a meeting of Lurgan Borough Council a seven-man Sports Committee was formed to improve the state of sports facilities in the town, headed by Councillor Pentland.
He said: "Playing fields in this town at the moment are no credit to this council. I refer in particular to Lord Lurgan Memorial Park. When I went to the park last week I was absolutely appalled at the conditions there for sport."
According to the councillor, the condition of the playing fields was "hopeless." The two pitches were a quagmire as there was very little drainage and the pitches had been "over-played."
He also referred to the cricket pavilion, pointing out there were no toilets and stating that the place was an "embarrassment."
