Revival of skateboards

THE revival of the skateboarding craze in 1989 prompted police to issue a warning.

They said they had complaints about the thrill seeking surfers who were using the roads.

And that constituted a serious danger not only to the skateboarders but also to motorists.

Said a spokesman: “By using the roads skateboarders are creating a serious traffic hazard. We are most concerned at the practice.

“The matter is being given urgent attention but we are also asking parents to ensure their children only use skateboards in safe places.”

The previous week the ‘MAIL’ had highlighted skateboarding’s return to favour with the town’s youngsters bringing the old craze slap bang up to date with newer, bigger and better boards.
