A FEUD between two local men erupted when one smashed a spade through the other's car windscreen in November 1981.

A FEUD between two local men erupted when one smashed a spade through the other's car windscreen in November 1981.

The defendant was told by the judge that if he couldn't agree with the other man he should avoid him.

He admitted criminal damage and common assault and was given a conditional discharge for 12 months. The investigating inspector said that at 1.30pm in Aghagallon the defendant was standing at a roadside with a spade in his hand.

The injured party was in his car when the defendant swung his spade and smashed the windscreen, causing minor injuries to the driver. The resident magistrate described the attack as a "very uncivilised" thing to do.

According to the defendant, ill-feeling had existed between the two since they had fallen out in a pub the previous year.
