Burglar was lucky and persistent

POLICE were hunting Craigavon’s most persistent and lucky burglar in 1983.

For in the 14 times he struck he managed to make good his escape.

According to police eight homes were broken into on a Friday night and each time the intruder was confronted by the householder but managed to get away.

The warning to lock up well was passed by word of mouth but then on Monday night he struck again.

This time six houses were broken into.

On one occasion the householder slept through the intrusion and it was his neighbours who sensed that something was wrong.

Apparently the burglar got into the house by merely shaking the window frames.

One housewife said: “It is a really weird feeling just to imagine that someone is walking about your home at night.”
