A LURGAN businessman was trying to tempt his colleagues into using their brawn and well as their brain in 1978.

Travel agent John Castles wanted them to join a jogging class in the public park - at 7am each morning.

Together with others he tried it and claimed it did him the world of good.

But he readily admitted he was not the brain behind the idea. it was implemented by one of his employees, 17 year old Heather Geddis.

Said John: “The other morning Heather told me about her early morning jaunts around the park and I promised to go too.

“Before we knew it half a dozen friends were teaming up with us and now we have arranged to meet every morning outside the Robert Street swimming pool.

“It only takes about half an hour to lap the park but it is very tiring to start with. However the muscles don’t take long to limber up. It’s a marvellous form of exercise.”

“I’m sure there are a lot of businessmen and women in the town who fancy the idea but don’t want to be left running on their own.”
