THE 'MAIL' recently caught up with Lurgan actor Conleth Kane who is back on the Emerald Isle for the next few weeks for the Irish leg of the Beauty and the Beast tour.
24-year-old Conleth says he’s having an absolute ball on the UK/European tour of the Walt Disney production.
Conleth, who will be on the tour until January 2009, will be on stage in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre for the next five weeks.
Here’s what he had to tell ‘MAIL’ readers:
Best moment of the tour?
Personally, I love the rehearsal period in any job I do, the 'getting to know each other' period. It's all very exciting and fresh! Going to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia was incredible! Our hotel was just AMAZING! The people were lovely, the theatre was massive and there was lots to see and do.
Worst moment of the tour?
Myself and Helen from the cast had our wallets stolen in our first week in Dublin.... and for some reason, both of us had lots of cash in them. I never really carry cash which is annoying but the whole company were so supportive and looked after me! But it did put a grey cloud over our opening week in Dublin.
Closest friend from the cast?
Erm....... I have a few... Hollie Sorelle would be my best friend on the tour. We were separated at birth, we are that similar. Iain Terry, because I annoy him and I find it funny! I get on with everyone for different reasons. We have a right laugh in the dressing rooms. I have never been in such a funny company before! I love them all.
Any romance on the tour?
I'm way too busy for romance!!
What have you missed most about home?
Well, I have lived away from home since 2001. I miss my two grandmothers lots and I try to see them as often as possible when I am home. I miss my family and my dog. My mum is amazing with me when I am at home. I am only home for a few weeks each year and she really looks after me when I am at home.
If you could handpick someone else you know to be in the cast alongside you, who would it be?
A few people, I love a good laugh, so my best mate Anna McAllister is always welcome. We did youth musicals together when we were teenagers. She never fails to make me laugh! Or anyone from the Lyric's 'The Wizard of Oz' cast at Christmas, I had the best time ever in that show! Especially with Rachel Tucker, who played Dorothy (and semi-finalist from BBC'S 'I'd Do Anything' Nancy Search....) but something tells me she is a bit too busy to be joining me on tour right now....
What has been your favourite city on the tour?
Kuala Lumpur was amazing! We are now in Dublin, and I must say, the audiences here are the best! They really appreciate and love the show, I'm excited about the next five weeks here. We have a lot of cities coming up. I really enjoyed Manchester last year when I went there with the National Tour of 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'! So I'm looking forward to going back there this year.
