LURGAN band RedLikeCrimson will represent Northern Ireland at an all-Ireland battle of the bands final next month.
The band, fronted by Ben Nelson, won the Northern Ireland final last Thursday in Belfast’s Empire Music Hall.
The ultimate goal for the band is London for the world finals of the Global Battle of the Bands at the London Scala on December 14 and 15
.
Ben told the ‘MAIL’: “Making it to the world final would mean huge media and industry attention, so we are very hopeful.”
He explained they entered the same competition the year before but missed out in the heats.
“We were shocked when they announced the result. It was jaws on the floor time. We’re excited and happy about going to Dublin for the all-Ireland final. It’s certainly the biggest thing in our heads at the minute.”
On Thursday they overcame seven local bands in the competition. At the all-Ireland final in The Button Factory in Dublin in the middle of October they’ll be up against another seven of Ireland’s finest acts.
The winner will receive an all expenses paid trip to the world final, where there is a possible $100,000 prize money up for grabs.
The band travel to Dublin buoyed by comments from host of the Belfast final Johnny Hero and the fact they’ve got through the competition at the second time of asking.
Before the all-Ireland final RedLIkeCrimson will play The Pavillion in Belfast on Wednesday, September 17, Exodus in Lisburn on September 20 and The Pavillion again on October 8.
RedLikeCrimson will also be going in for the Orange Mobile Act series televised on Channel Four.
“We got down to the final 40 last year and could have got an audition, but none of us were in the country at the time and we hadn’t checked our emails. We’ve learnt from that mistake and are hoping to get another chance this year.”
