Gearing up for CountryFest

COUNTRY greats Randy Travis and Martina McBride are to headline the two day UTV CountryFest 09 festival on Saturday and Sunday, August 1-2, at the Kings Hall in Belfast.

These multi-award winning artists will join over 60 International, UK and Irish acts performing on three separate stages in Belfast's Kings Hall.

The bank holiday weekend event, which attracted thousands to Dungannon last Summer, has been organised by Ireland's fastest growing tour promoter JW Promotions in association with media sponsors UTV.

Paul Lau from JW Promotions said: "The line-up for this year brings a wide range of both contemporary and classic country artists together for two days of top entertainment. The move to an indoor venue in Belfast means that the festival will be high and dry from wet weather but also offers an infrasture ideally placed to cope with such a large event."

Other International acts include Grammy award winners and Grand ole members winners such as Ray Price, Hal Ketchum, Doug Stone and Connie Smith.

The event will also feature the cream of Irish Country artists such as Mike Denver, Jimmy Buckley, Eamon McCann, Roly Daniels, The Benn Sisters and Philomena Begley.

Both headline acts are renowned for their own individual singing style and international success. Randy Travis has sung with legendary vocalists such as George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn and Willie Nelson. His distinctive heartfelt singing style has made him a hit favourite of country music fans globally. To date, he has sold more than 25 million records and is one of the top-selling solo country artists of all time, featured on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Grammy award winner and four-time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Martina McBride has racked up 16 million in sales, 22 top 10 singles -including six number ones with crossover success in multiple genres and a slew of national television appearances in her illustrious 15-year career.

Martina, a producer, artist and writer continues to scale new artistic heights and is currently in the studio working on her upcoming album.

A 'CountryFest CD' featuring many of the artists is also available. Musicians including Georgette Jones, Hal Ketchum, Doug Stone, Jimmy Buckley, Robert Mizzell and Mike Denver have collaborated on a feature track 'The Ties That Bind' which was specially written for the CD by John Farry and many have contributed their own tracks to the double sided CD, price 12.99. Funds raised from the sale of the CD are in support of The Meningitis Trust.

Tickets for the event are on sale now priced at 40 for one day or 75 for a weekend pass. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster nationwide and regionally from Camerons Ballymena, The Waterfront Hall Belfast, The Music Shop Cookstown, The Music Centre Letterkenny, The Millennium Forum, Derry and the Strule Arts Centre Omagh.
