Looking forward

Boasting more blockbusters than (possibly) ever, 2012 was a big year for film. 2013 looks to repeat this trend, with some highly anticipated releases. Here are some I’m looking forward to in the coming months:

January opens with Quentin Tarantino’s Western/Southern ‘Django Unchained’ on the 18th. ‘The Last Stand’ starring Arnold Schwarzenegger - Arnie’s first leading role in a decade - is released on the 25th. In February (25th), fellow action legend Sylvester Stallone stars as a hit-man in ‘Bullet to the Head’. Bruce Willis returns as detective John McClain in the fifth Die Hard film, on Valentine’s Day. Yippie-ki-yay.

The visually stunning ‘Stoker’ from director Park Chan-wook heads an impressive March (1st), which includes ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’, Sam Raimi’s prequel to ‘The Wizard of Oz’ on the 8th.

April heralds the remake of Raimi’s classic ‘Evil Dead’ on the 19th. Judging from the trailer, it could be one of the best (and scariest) horror films in years. May has the release of sequels ‘Star Trek into Darkness’ (17th) and ‘Iron Man 3’ (26th).

The busy summer season sees the releases of Superman reboot ‘Man of Steel’ (June 14th), Brad Pitt’s post-apocalyptic Zombie horror ‘World War Z’ (June 21st), Pixar prequel ‘Monsters University’ (July 12th) and Hugh Jackman’s ‘The Wolverine’ (July 26th).

Schwarzenegger and Stallone join forces in ‘The Tomb’, on September 27th. ‘A Dame to Kill For’, the long awaited follow-up to the outstanding ‘Sin City’, is released in October (TBA).

The years third and final Marvel film, ‘Thor: The Dark World’, opens in November (30th). ‘The Desolation of Smaug’, the second of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit films (released on the 13th), rounds off December, like ‘An Unexpected Journey’ last year.

I wish you a happy and prosperous 2013. Should be another busy year for yours truly.
