Reviews - Prodigy, Paolo Nutini

Live

Prodigy

WHEN you're 15 years ahead of the rest - its easy to sound this good.

The Prodigy rolled into Newcastle for the first ever 'Live in the Park' in the picturesque seaside town's Donard Park.

With no end of show stoppers, including those from arguably their best album 'Fat of the Land', the crowd's energy was incredible.

Supporting acts Deadmau5, Noise Control and Hot Chip were put firmly in the shade.

Such was the ferociousness and energy of the set it was hard not to be bowled over by both the intense sound and the awesome stage set-up.

A post-apocalyptic furore galvanized the 15,000 strong crowd into a fever and the dance act showed no sign of their 20 year long stint at the top.

Smack My B***h Up and Out of Space were indisputable highlights of this event, which is sure to return next year - but the organisers may have set the bar too high.

Paolo Nutini

SCOTTISH singer Paolo Nutini pushes his boat out a little further with new album 'Sunny Side Up'

There's a touch of ska, a hint of reggae, a dash of soul and a pinch of pop as Nutini addresses his difficult second album with aplomb.

This is an album to transcend social, demographic and musical boundaries from a man with a voice that simply has to be admired.

His talent isn't going unnoticed - Nutini is developing quite the name for himself. When you 'Google' Paolo Nutini you get half a million more search results than you do for soccer legend Paolo Maldini. 8/10
