Eugene wins £1,000 prize

A LOCAL entertainer won a top cabaret award and a £1,000 prize in 1978.

The popular comedian and impressionist Eugene Fitzpatrick was voted cabaret entertainer of the year.

“I could hardly believe it when they put the cheque for £1,000 in my hand,” said Eugene.

Another part of the prize was a tour with Dana and the Nolan Sisters.

Originally from Banbridge Eugene was living in Craigavon at the time and was well known locally as the compere at the Ashburn Hotel in Lurgan on Wednesday nights.

He was also formerly a member of the top cabaret group Five Star Brandy.
