This Saturday everyone is invited to join the RSPB and brave the winter weather to explore Portmore Lough nature reserve outside Aghalee.
Please book by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 9049 1547 and don’t forget your wellies and waterproofs.
Whooper swans and greylag geese return to their winter homes at Portmore every year and are joined on the Lough by large numbers of pochard and tufted ducks.
Lapwing will also be returning to the reserve to breed – watch out for the males who wobble, zigzag, roll and dive while calling to advertise their presence to rival males and potential mates!
Tree sparrows will be feeding on the ‘big bird table’ and, if you’re lucky, great crested grebes will be dancing.
Reserve warden Amy Burns will lead you on a tour of this special site from 11am to 12.30pm and will be able to answer any questions you have about the local birds and wildlife.
This event is priced is £4/£2 for RSPB members. Children under 14 go free.
