Fun games a success

IRISH Cricket World Cup star Kyle McCallan battled it out with over 130 competitors at Craigavon's recent Fun Games Event - and the competition was as tough as any World Cup match he experienced in the West Indies!

Kyle was the special guest at Craigavon Sports Advisory Council’s (CSAC) annual “Fun Games” where local senior teams compete for two hours in various tests of skill and stamina for the coveted prize of Team of the Year.

Sarsfields GAC emerged as the overall winners while second and third place went to St. Peter’s Athletics Club and Waringstown Cricket Club respectively.

Participants on the night came from a variety of sports clubs right across the Borough including soccer, judo, hockey, athletics, American Football, volleyball, in-line hockey and gaelic football.

Their skills were tested by inventive games such as kurling target, rugby ball dribble, target golf, shuttle service and fun run to name a few.

Organiser of the event CSAC’s Julie Kitt explained: “It’s a great way for clubs to get together and compete in an informal way in an atmosphere of good-natured rivalry. Craigavon Sports Advisory Council is a voluntary organisation and we are always keen to welcome new members on board to assist us in developing sport in our area.”

Kyle McCallan also selected two competitors he thought had entered into the spirit of the games – Lynn Catley of Portadown Ladies Netball Club and Philip Cowan of Lurgan BBOB Football Club. Lurgan Ladies Hockey Club was the recipient of the ‘Fairplay’ Team Award.

Kyle was impressed with the event and commented, “It has been a great evening and everyone including myself has really enjoyed taking part – the games were challenging and fun.”

The Mayor of Craigavon Councillor Robert Smith and CSAC Councillor Kieran Corr were also on hand to help with the presentations and to lend their support to the event and the work of CSAC.
