RESIDENTS of the Grey estate in Lurgan were seeing red over a new colour scheme for the Mourneview Community Centre in 1978.
For painters from the borough council arrived and decorated the outside of the building in shades of green, white and yellow.
No soon had the painters left than objectors, armed with aerosols, arrived and recorded their opposition in foot high letters.
No one from the council was able to divulge the cost of the operation.
However a spokesman said: “Mourneview Community Centre was in need of a coat of paint but we are just not sure who chose the colours.
“I am sure it wasn’t deliberate though. I can’t imagine an order for green, while and yellow paint getting past members of the borough council.”
But Councillor David Calvert said that after an approach from residents, moves were underway to have the community centre repainted in royal blue with a brown trim.
The new colours were more in keeping with the area, he added.
