Members of the Soroptomist group, Lurgan, Joanne Harris, Jillian Prachett, Patricia Kerr and Maureen Maguire, who met with the RT Hon Anthony Steen, APPG adviser and Peter Bone MP to put forward questions and raise awareness of human trafficking.

FOUR members of Soroptomist International, Lurgan, travelled to Westminster as guests of Upper Bann MP David Simpson.

Mr Simpson welcomed the members to discuss at length the issue of the international crime of human trafficking with Peter Bone MP Baroness Butler-Sloss and the RT Hon Anthony Steen.

David Simpson said: “I would like to commend Soroptomist International for the excellent work they are doing and have done to raise awareness of this heinous crime.”

“I fully support their request for further advertising and education on this modern day slavery which affects vulnerable men, women and children who are trafficked into forced labour and domestic and sexual exploitation.

“I congratulate the PSNI for the work which they do in tackling human trafficking. I will continue to support the efforts of all those who are working hard for a safer society and to help raise awareness. While I welcome the rise in persons being released and acknowledge this achievement it is now necessary to work towards resources to support the victims who are being rescued.”
