OVER 100 people scaled Slieve Donard recently in aid of Lurgan girl Michelle Crossey's Pink Carnival charity.
Michelle was diagnosed with diabetes four years ago and she was five minutes from death when she was rushed to Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry.
All the money raised from the Pink Carnival will go to Diabetes UK.
Michelle’s mum Jacky said: “There w
as a really big turn out for the sponsored walk up Slieve Donard. There were free buses running from Lurgan and well over 100 people were there on the day.”
Jacky said: “There was a party for the kids while the adults did the walk and then a big barbecue when everyone came down the mountain.
“Michelle would like to thank the family that came and did all the cooking and music, Classic from Lurgan who gave all the climbers so much water, and Maurice Magill for his great support and Diabetes UK for helping to arrange the event, and of course everyone who came and did the climb.”
Fundraising has been building up to Michelle’s 18th birthday and the Pink Carnival itself at Centrepoint on August 1. This promises to be a great night with tickets now on sale at £5 each.
“She just wanted to do something nice because of all the help she’s got," said Jacky.
Not counting sponsorship money Michelle has raised around £1,000.
Michelle thanked all her friends and family for their great support and for given up so much of there time to help her raise money for Diabetes UK.
Anyone wishing to donate can go into the Bank of Ireland in Lurgan and lodge money into the Pink Carnival account.
