Published Date: 26 June 2008
ON SATURDAY 18 students and members of staff from St. Michael's Grammar School departed for Nairobi, Kenya.
Whilst in Kenya the group of 18 will experience first hand, the harsh living conditions endured by the poorest families who live in the slum district of Nairobi, known as Mukuru - the valley of the poor.

Students and staff will work hand in hand with the schools run by the Sisters of Mercy in Mukuru. The St Michael's team will also be able to see the progress that has been made on the construction of the brand new purpose-built shelter for street-boys of Mukuru.

While there, the students will present £20,000 to the Sisters of Mercy in Mukuru, which has been raised by the school community for the project over the past year, through various fundraising events.

The Mukuru Committee thanks the local community for their generous support for the fundraising over the past year Mission to Mukuru. They also thank all the local primary schools who contributed football tops; these will be delivered in person to the children of Mukuru by the St Michael's team during their visit.
