Cyclist kills pedestrian

HAMILTON'S Turn on the Waringstown-Banbridge Road was the scene of a fatal accident at midnight on Saturday, September 7, 1929.
James Thompson of Scarva Street, Banbridge was stood at the corner when the right handle of a push bicycle struck him, knocking him to the ground and he sustained a fracture to the base of the skull.
He later died as a result of his injuries.
The cyclist, Jas Withers, was dazzled by the light of the of an oncoming motor-cycle coming from the Waringstown, In the temporary darkness he did not see or hear the deceased walking on the road.
At an inquest held on the following Monday morning, Wm Thompson of Dromore and son of the deceased, gave evidence of identification and said his father was 77-years-old.
A number of witnesses said they saw Mr Thompson out walking at night and thought it was too dark and too late for a man of his age to be out walking.
