CHUJO Karate Association Coaches have completed an intensive training seminar with martial arts legend Rick Young. The seminar was held in Avoniel Leisure Centre Belfast.
Attending from Chujo were coaches Keith Millar, Alan Logan, Stephen Surgeoner and chief coach Dan Redmond, who had trained with Rick Young on four previous occasions. He has trained with him in England and Scotland.
Rick Young is based in Edinburgh where he teaches at his elite Rick Young Academy.
He is a master of a number of martial arts including Karate, Ju Jitsu, Judo, Muay Thai and MMA. He has won the Brazilian Ju Jitsu World Title in Brazil and he has also won the Pan Am Ju jitsu Championships. He himself is a student of Dan Inasanto (USA) who was himself Bruce Lee's number one student. Young is very highly respected worldwide.
The seminar was four hours long. The first two hours concentrated on groundwork such as fighting from the guard, arm bars, chokes and strangles, throws and a whole lot more.
Two hours were then spent on hand, knee and foot pad drills. Next came sparring to include both stand up and ground techniques. The training was intensive and at the end of the four hours most of the large attendance had reached the exhaustion point.
Rick then took a question and answer session. He is an excellent communicator and his answers to the many questions were very interesting. He also gave a talk about his decision to fight for the World Title and how his preparations went in Scotland/Brazil.
