£17k bill to repair the village war memorial

COSTS to repair Waringstown War Memorial have soared from £14k to more than £17k and work has not even started.

Craigavon Council initially estimated that work to repair the external concrete on the memorial would cost around £14,000.

However internal structural problems have been discovered.

Currently the lowest tender for the work stands at £17,165.

At present a contractor has not been appointed.

A council spokesperson said: “In preparing the tender documentation for the works further investigations revealed internal structural problems which were then included in to the scope of work for the tender.
