Lough Neagh is to benefit from a £2.6m funding boost to help transform the area’s landscape and cultural heritage.

The cash from the Heritage Lottery Fund will be used to construct a heritage trail, carry out archaeological digs and conserve wetland and peatland.

Charlie Monaghan, manager of the Lough Neagh Partnership, said the grant would be topped up to just more than £3m with funding from local councils other parties.

He said the natural heritage spending would focus on wetlands habitat and peat land restoration while built heritage projects would include archaeological digs at the Round Tower on Rams’s Island.
