NEIGHBOURS in Silverwood Leaves pulled together to keep the floodwaters at bay.
Had it not been for his neighbours John Roberts said his house would have been flooded.

"The neighbours were absolutely brilliant," he said.

"I don't know what we'd have done without them helping."

John told how through a process of laying sandbags, digging irrigation channels and bailing out water they prevented the interior of number 63 Silverwood Leaves being infiltrated by floodwaters.

In citing the causes of the catastrophe John said the Halfpenny River should have been landscaped more appropriately given that it flows between two housing estates.

As a consequence of the flooding John and his family are without heat and will he said the front and back garden will have to be ripped up and relaid.
