THE grieving mother of a Lurgan teenager, who died suddenly at the weekend, was viciously assaulted on her doorstep in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Anne Thompson, who buried her 19-year-old son yesterday (Wednesday), had answered a knock at the door when she was attacked.

In a sickening assault a man is understood to have punched her in the face.

Her son Mark Thompson, known as Maggie, died suddenly in his home in Colban Crescent on Saturday, October 5.

Friends of the 19-year-old described him as a likeable character.

One girl from the area said: "It was a total shock to the whole neighbourhood, he was well liked and will be missed by a lot of people."

Police received a report of a disturbance in the Colban Crescent area of Craigavon at 1.45am on Wednesday.

They said: "A female was assaulted and sustained injuries to her head.

"A 27 year old male was arrested and is currently assisting police with their enquiries."
