A MEETING held last week to discuss the provision of further education in the town has been described as "very constructive".
One of the topics of discussion was the £12 million spend on a new Lurgan College.
The ‘MAIL’ has carried a number of reports and letters in recent weeks including the viewpoints of those in favour of a new build on the current site at College Wal
k and those opposed to rebuilding on that site.
Another topic discussed - the lack of facilities at Craigavon Senior High School’s Lurgan Campus - has also been covered recently in the ‘MAIL’.
A statement from Lurgan Ministers’ Fellowship, who arranged Wednesday’s meeting, read: “Following a meeting with local political representatives the Lurgan Ministers’ Fellowship had a very constructive meeting with the principals and chairs of boards of governors of Lurgan College, Craigavon Senior High School and Lurgan Junior High School.
“We are united in our affirmation of the high quality of teaching being carried out in all the schools and our welcome for the investment in Lurgan College.”
The statement continued: “We are very concerned, however, about the lack of facilities at Craigavon Senior High School’s Lurgan campus and the lack of clear planning at Board level for its development. We will be seeking a meeting with the Board to take our concerns further.”
The DUP’s Stephen Moutray, who attended the meeting, said: “Whatever is done in relation to further education is in the interests of children not only now but for generations to come.”
