This year has brought changes within many households as well as on the political scene, local MP David Simpson has said in his Christmas message to constituents.
He said: “For many of us, Christmas is a time to re-unite with family and friends and remind ourselves of the year that has gone before us. This year has brought changes for many households as well as many changes within the political scene. Some of us have lost loved ones whilst many will have welcomed new additions to our household. In September we lost a friend of Ulster and servant of the Lord, Dr Ian Paisley. We are entirely indebted to his service to public life and our thoughts and prayers are with his family this Christmas.
“In the past year we faced two important elections which brought a deserved success for our MEP Diane Dodds in the European Election. Locally, I was delighted that our party returned 13 members to the new ABC Super-Council with many new faces taking to the platform.
“Looking ahead to 2015, I have no doubt that our households will face many trials and difficulties but I trust and pray that we will face these difficulties with the determination to make this year peaceful and prosperous for us all.
“Can I take this opportunity to thank you all for the support you have given me as your Member of Parliament. I do not take this role for granted and I am indebted for the confidence you have instilled upon me for the last 10 years and I trust that this would continue as we face the forthcoming General Election.
“As we once again celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, can I wish you and your families a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.”
