ACTION Cancer have launched their first ever Slieve Donard Walk taking place on May 11.
They are looking for volunteers to join them on the day.
Participants will walk 850 metres from Donard Park, through Donard Wood and over the Glen River before reaching the famous Mourne wall and continuing up to the summit of the mountain, enjoying spectacular views along the way.
The walk will start at 10am on Saturday with registration open from 9.15am. There will be free car parking facilities at Donard Car Park, Newcastle.
Event Organiser Leigh Chamberlain said, ‘This is a brilliant opportunity to walk up the highest mountain in Northern Ireland while helping out your local cancer charity.
“We are asking everyone to raise just £65 in sponsorship and help Action Cancer to save lives and support people affected by cancer in Northern Ireland.”
It is now predicted that two in five people will be given a diagnosis of cancer at some stage in their lives. Action Cancer provides a range of vital, life-saving services including breast cancer screening (available to women aged 40 – 49 and over 70), Men’s MOT health checks, health promotion, research, counselling and complementary therapies.
Services are available regionally through the mobile facilities on the BIG BUS and at Action Cancer House in Belfast.
