The famous yellow of Lurgan’s Apollo Cycling Team is being put to one side by the club but only for a weekend as the Giro d’Italia comes to Ulster.

It’s a big week in cycling, the start of the Giro d’Italia in Northern Ireland and Apollo Cycling Team are getting into the spirit of the event.

At the weekend they launched their own pink Giro d’Italia tribute t-shirts featuring Giro legend Marco Pantani.

Then on Sunday the club rode in Chain Reactions Big Italian Bike Ride Sportive event which allowed cyclists to ride the same route the professionals will be riding this Saturday.

The highlight of the event was when the club had gathered at the finishing line and Irish Cycling hero Sean Kelly came over and had a few photos taken.

Apollo have been very actively growing the club this past year with the opening of their club rooms in High Street and forming a ladies section to the club.

Some of the Apollo ladies last year weren’t even on a bike and now they’re cycling 85 miles for fun.

Apollo will be in Belfast from Thursday soaking up the atmosphere of the Giro in their pink t-shirts.
