A WOMAN was left badly shaken and had to be taken to hospital after her home was the set alight twice in one night.

The double blaze has substantially damaged her home in the Shankill area of Lurgan.

Police are treating both fires as ‘suspicious’.

Two fire appliances from Lurgan and two from Portadown were first called to the house in Dill Avenue at around 3.28am on Saturday morning.

Fire crews dealt with a small fire in a bedroom of the mid terrace two storey house.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said smoke alarms alerted the occupier to the fire.

The Fire Service are treating the blaze as deliberate.

This time two appliances from Lurgan and one from Portadown were tasked.

Fire crews dealt with the fire which this time was on the top floor of the terrace house.

A spokesperson said the fire was ‘well alight’ by the time the fire crews arrived.

“An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire but it is thought to have been started deliberately,” said a NIFRS spokesperson. “The incident was dealt with at 5.25am.”

A PSNI said Detectives in Lurgan are investigating the attack.

“The occupier was left badly shaken by the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment,” said a PSNI spokesperson.
