Doors closed at store

A BIRTHDAY’S shop in Craigavon has been the only one in the province to close after the group fell into administration.

The store, at Rushmere Shopping Centre, closed its doors last week.

There were 42 other Clinton Cards and Birthday outlets in the UK which closed leaving staff at the remaining store in Lurgan on tenterhooks regarding their future.

The group went into administration last month, although 397 of its shops in Northern Ireland and Britain were sold to Ohio-based American Greetings on Friday saving 4,500 jobs.

Zolfo Cooper administrators closed 43 of the 330 stores not included in the deal, leading to 408 redundancies.

They are looking for buyers for the remaining shops including more than 20 across the province in a bid to save nearly 3,000 jobs.
