Hoophill Nurseries, near Waringstown, supplies over 80,000 shamrock sprigs for the British Army.

The MLA said, “I was blown away by the amount of work involved in preparing the shamrock sprigs. Every shamrock is grown, cultivated, washed and wrapped by hand to ensure quality and precision as required by our military personnel and to ensure that our Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are happy.

“When we see our military personnel wear the shamrock on parade, we never think of the workmanship that goes into the growing the sprigs.

“Whilst visiting I got to meet Brian Boru X, pet name Conrí (Wolf King), the RIR’s 2nd Battalion Mascot. Weighing in at 11 stone, let’s just say I didn’t offer to walk him. We are very mindful of our service personnel and would continue to support them.”
