RUSHMERE Shopping Centre is celebrating a strong trading performance over the Easter weekend after the number of shoppers visiting the centre increased by 18% year on year, double the regional average for the Northern Ireland retail industry published by Experian.

This continued the positive trend from March which also witnessed an increase in visitor numbers on the same month last year.

Rushmere is marking the strong performance with a string of new store openings and refurbishments, including a £100,000 makeover for Costa Coffee, creating several new jobs.

The centre is also welcoming two new tenants to Rushmere: Jay’s Brow Bar which will create six new jobs; and Faith Jewellers, creating ten new full and part time job.

Rushmere Shopping Centre Manager, Martin Walsh, said: “We’re delighted with the centre’s recent strong performance and are thrilled to welcome the new traders to Rushmere.

“The retail environment is challenging and competitive at the moment, and we’re extremely grateful to all of our shoppers for visiting the centre in huge numbers over the Easter weekend.

“Rushmere Shopping Centre has performed incredibly well in early 2012 and we hope to see that trend continue with increased footfall, further new store openings and more job creation.”

The new-look Costa Coffee store at Rushmere, Costa’s number one performing store in Northern Ireland, recently re-opened after an extensive refurbishment programme.

The programme has seen an extra 500 sq.ft added to the unit, doubling the number of seats from 54 to 108.
