You'll be floored at Ulster Carpets

Ulster Carpets, has remained a family owned company since its foundation by George W Wilson, in 1938.

The company manufactures all Axminster and Wilton carpets at their headquarters on the Garvaghy Road and it is from here that their top quality products are exported to the worlds most discerning customers including the recently re-mastered Queen Mary 2.

The iconic ship underwent a £90m refurbishment which took over 8 million hours to complete and included 21,500sqm of bespoke Ulster Axminster. The carpets were designed and crafted in the UK in conjunction with SMC Design and Cunard Cruise Lines.

The designs are truly exceptional with many boasting intricate and three dimensional elements. The geometric prints epitomise an era of luxury, sophistication and glamour, sentiments which are evident through the opulent and cohesive decor scheme on board.

Although the interiors are inspired by the history and regal heritage of the ship, the Ulster Carpets bring an element of modernism.

The colours were carefully selected to complement the striking designs, with royal reds, golds and deep sea blues.

The most fabulous carpeting feature is without a doubt the retro style starburst carpet in the main atrium, which is the show piece of the ship.

Ulster Carpets are extremely proud to be part of such a prestigious project and it was certainly another highlight in an exciting year for the company. Back in May, Ulster were delighted to welcome to HRH The Prince of Wales and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall for a tour of the factory during their visit to NI.

The Royal couple were impressed by the innovation demonstrated on their visit and were treated to a preview of the companys new Dyehouse which will soon be operational.

This is the most technically developed Dyehouse in the world for woollen spun yarns and marks a further commitment to long term manufacturing in Portadown.
