A CRAIGAVON councillor has expressed concern that the installation of CCTV cameras at Lurgan Cemetery has been delayed.
The DUP’s Carla Lockhart asked the Council’s Director of Environmental Services, Lorraine Crawford, what the reason for the delay was.
“There are a lot of residents who have had damage inflicted on graves,” said Cllr Lockhart.
“The vandalism is costing them a significant amount of money, let alone the emotional damage it does to the families.”
Mrs Crawford said the hold-up was the result of a “joint procurement exercise”.
Cllr Lockhart replied: “I understand the economies of scale and bringing things together, but more damage could have been inflicted in the meantime.
“If something like this is going to happen in the future, I’m sure the environment committee members would want to hear about any delays.”
