A coffee morning held to raise funds for the Tearfund response to the unfolding refugee crisis has raised £2,500.

DUP MLA Stephen Moutray hosted the morning to raise funds for the highly regarded charity, which has set up a new Emergency Fund to bring help and support to the heart of the refugee crisis in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Eritrea and many other countries.

After the event, which proved to be very successful, Mr Moutray said,

“I would like to thank everyone who attended and donated to this very worthy cause.

“I am always impressed with the generosity of local people and to raise £2,500 far exceeded my expectations.

“I am genuinely overwhelmed with the response and I know that Tearfund will put this financial contribution to great use amongst the most vulnerable.

“Many millions of people have been displaced and are fleeing for a better life for themselves and their family. It is vital that we, who have so much, demonstrate compassion for this crisis - be it financially or practically.

“Again, many thanks for all of the kindness shown and to Jethro staff for their hard work and assistance.”
