PREPARTIONS are underway for the eagerly anticipated Craigavon & District Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships taking place in Lurgan Park on Saturday 15th June.

Organised by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (Co.Down Section) in partnership with Craigavon Borough Council, the event will see over 1,000 members of pipe bands and drum majors from all over Ireland compete in competition, playing a wonderful spectrum of music and showcasing their melodic talents to visitors from near and far. In addition, Field Marshall Montgomery will also be performing on the day. Kicking off at 11am, visitors will get the chance to tantalise their tastebuds at the Artisan Food Village where there will be everything from chutneys to cup cakes and curries to ice-cream and speciality dishes, including Polish baking, spicy Spanish dishes and fantastic fudge. There will also be plenty of entertainment on offer to keep your little ones entertained including face-painting, balloon modelling and well-known walkabout characters.

Deputy Mayor of Craigavon, Alderman Arnold Hatch, said: “We are delighted the championship is taking place in the borough this year and we are looking forward to hearing the wonderful music throughout the day. Make sure you are part of this fantastic event that will delight everyone, from piping fans to anyone looking for a great day out.”

Mervyn Herron, RSPBA NI, Contest Administrator, explained: “We are so pleased to bring the championships to Lurgan Park. The support of the council has been great and a wealth of competitors will be competing and entertaining the crowds on the day. I am sure it will be a great day out for everyone.” Admission is £4 and 16-year-olds and under are free. There will be a complimentary shuttle bus from Lurgan town centre to the event.
