A Lurgan man did not know his licence had expired until he was stopped for using a mobile phone while driving.
Twenty nine year old Dermot Kearney, of Lurgantarry, Lurgan, was fined £80, with three points, last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for using a mobile phone while driving on March 10.
He was also fined £20 for not having a licence and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
The court heard that he was seen using his phone while driving on the motorway. His licence had expired.
A solicitor for the defendant said he had been working in London and did not realise his licence had expired until he brought it to the police station.
