Fined for using his phone as a sat-nav while driving

An 18-year- old man did not realise it was wrong to use the sat-nav on his mobile phone while he was driving, a court has been told.

Ciaran Morrow, Rampart Street, Lurgan, was fined £75 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for using his phone while driving on June 3 this year.

He was also given three points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 11.50pm, Morrow was seen using his phone while driving on the Dobbin Road, Portadown.

His fingers were on the screen of the phone, the court heard.

He told police he was only using the phone as a sat-nav.

In his plea to the court, Morrow said he was unaware using his phone as a sat-nav was illegal.
