Spat in partner's face during '¨money argument

A 38-year-old man who spat in his partner's face during an argument was given a suspended prison sentence last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

Mario Carvalho, Richmount Gardens, Lurgan, admitted common assault on August 22 last year.

The court heard that at 6.40pm police were called to an address in Portadown in relation to an ongoing domestic incident.

The injured party said that her partner, the defendant, had spat in her face during an argument over money. She feared he was going to assault her.

Carvalho was remorseful when approached by police.

A barrister representing the defendant said there was an argument over money and his client had lost the run of himself.

It was unsavoury to spit in a woman’s face, he added.

District Judge Oonagh Mullan, said it was a ‘very unsavoury’ incident and imposed a three month prison term, suspended for two years.
