A 20-year- old man who stole drink and food from Tescos in Lurgan was put on probation for 12 months at Craigavon Magistrates Court.
Conor McCartan, Drumbeg, Craigavon, admitted the theft of a bottle of vodka andsandwiches, valued at £12, on November 8 last year.
A barrister for McCartan said he had received a custodial sentence for breach of probation and theft but since his release in May had not come to police attention. She added that alcohol and drugs had been a contributing factor.
The barrister said her client was now abstaining from alcohol and drugs and knew he did not handle probation and community service well in the past.
Imposing the 12 month order, the judge said that probation could help the defendant.
