A cross community talent competition, aimed at showcasing the area’s wealth of young local talent, is proving to be an online hit.

It’s the brainchild of Mr Black from Lurgan Junior High School and Miss Nugent from St Mary’s High School, both teachers in charge of cross community relations at their respective schools.

A total of 14 groups and singers were filmed by ljhs.tv last June performing in Brownlow House for Lurgan’s Got Talent.

Their performances have been put together on a DVD and are also available to view online where people can vote for their favourite.

Mr Black said: “There’s so much talent in the area we wanted to do something to highlight and showcase it.

“It was a cross community initiative between the two schools, but since it was filmed last year some of those who took part are now at Lurgan College and St Michael’s, so the project now involves four schools.”

He added: “The plan is to let the competition run until Halloween so everyone has plenty of time to see all the acts.

“There will be an overall winner, but it’s not so much about the winning as the competition itself showcasing the young talent in the area.”

The videos are linked in to YouTube which gave an indication of how popular some of the musicians are. Mr Black said some of the hits are coming from as far away as America.
