Damaged window and bedside cabinet at Bluestone unit

When he was told he would be discharged from hospital a 36-year-old man did not take it too well and damaged a bedside cabinet.

Kenneth Fortune, Downshire Avenue, Lurgan, admitted criminal damage to the cabinet and attempted criminal damage to a window on February 16 this year.

For each offence he was sentenced to a period of three months in prison last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

The sentences are to run concurrently and were suspended for 18 months.

The court heard that Fortune was a patient at the Bluestone unit and when told he was going to be discharged he did not take it too well.

When interviewed by police he said he had ‘lost it and blanked out’ and couldn’t remember what happened after that.

A solicitor representing Fortune said he had previously been given probation and this was going well. He was attending a drink management programme.

District Judge, Mr Peter King, said that offences which occur in the grounds of a hospital instantly attract some sort of imprisonment.
