A Belfast man who went equipped for burglary with a Lidl carrier bag, pleaded guilty to stealing goods from Sainsbury’s at Rushmere.

Ciaran O’Neill aged 24 from St Matthew’s Court in the city faced charges of burglary and going equipped for burglary.

According to the court, O’Neill entered Sainsbury’s as a trespasser on July 2 this year and stole blu ray DVD disks worth around £136.

The defendant was also accused of having a Foil lined Lidl carrier bag for use in a burglary .

The 24-year-old appeared via video link as he was in custody in relation to other offences.

The Resident Magistrate Mervyn Bates said there appeared to be a pattern of recurrent offending.

“The record indicated some form,” said Mr Bates.

O’Neill’s solicitor said he had a ‘considerable record’.

The Magistrates noted that the defendant was currently serving a prison sentence and gave him six months jail on each of the two charges both to run concurrently to each other but consecutively to his current sentence.
