The security alert at Lurgan’s Carrigart Manor is now over and police said a device recovered was ‘viable’.
A caller to the Lurgan Mail warned of a device in the area and the PSNI called in Army Technical Officers earlier this morning.
A number of homes were evacated.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “ATO were tasked to scene and the device was made safe and recovered for further forensic examination.
Inspector Leslie Badger, Neighbourhood Policing Team, E District said “This is a residential area and we are all extremely thankful that this device was detected and that no one was killed or seriously injured. The consequences had this device detonated do not bear thinking about. Obviously the people responsible have little regard for human life.”
Detectives investigating this incident are appealing to anyone with information to contact on 0845 600 8000. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without leaving their name they can contact the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
