Lord Lurgan Park will come alive to the sound of music this weekend as the much anticipated Community Festival kicks off.

Organised by the young people in the North Lurgan Youth Leadership Programme, the festival will have a wealth of talent and plenty of things for everyone to do.

It starts at noon on Saturday with a variety of music throughout the afternoon.

There will be something for everyone and most of the activities are free as well.

Activities range from the usual bouncy castles and funfair rides to football tournaments, DJ workshops and bungee runs.

DJ and compere for the day is Mike McKee with first act Kayleigh Gallagher taking to the stage at around 12.30pm. Conor McCann will be entertaining the crowds at 1pm.

There will be a DJ pumping out sounds until Emma Horan takes centre stage. A unique dance act will also be enthralling the crowd.

Folk Fusion are sure to be a hit with the crowd at 2.40pm. Brother and sister Darren and Alison Crossey have a superb repertoire and a fantastic local talent.

FADD Dance Group will follow at 3.40pm.

After another DJ, the fabulous Gypsy’s Wish take to the stage. This two piece have already been wowing audiences across Lurgan and Belfast and are sure to be a hit.

Another DJ and Marty T are also playing with the event due to finish at 6pm.

The young people, who organised the event and who mostly come from the Kilwilkie estate in the town, were selected to participate in the Co-operation Ireland programme, which was developed to help young people unlock their leadership potential, improve their self-worth and confidence and make the headlines as positive role models in their community. The concept of the community festival was the idea of the young people who wanted to show their commitment to improving their local area.

They have built on the success of last year’s inaugural festival and it clearly illustrates the leadership qualities these young people have honed.

This year Craigavon Borough Council are also supporting the young people.

So why not spend Saturday afternoon in Lord Lurgan Park.
