Dollingstown will be awash with flowers when work begins in September on planting of new flower beds to the front of Alfred Terrace.
The work comes about after consultations between local residents community representatives Bruce Kidd, Raymond McCoy and DUP Councillor Carla Lockhart.
Speaking on the issue Cllr Carla Lockhart said: “Having spoken with Bruce and Raymond I realised there was a desire to see flowers return to the village of Dollingstown.
“I set about contacting the statutory authorities to assist and given that the land is in the ownership of the NIHE they have agreed to place six to seven small compact rugby ball shaped beds along the stretch of grass to the front of Alfred Terrace with high density bulb planting.
“The work on the flower beds will commence in September/October this year which will mean that in 2015 Dollingstown will be awash with flowers and colour.
“I am delighted with this outcome and look forward to seeing the finished result.
“This is a start and we are hopeful to tackle other problems in the village in coming weeks.”
