DUP Councillor Phil Moutray has said: “The roadworks are causing great inconvenience to the people of south Lurgan. I have been contacted by a number of residents who have raised concerns with the length of delays being caused to drivers.

“The Lurgan DUP team have asked for an immediate meeting with the contractor to ensure that any delays are brought to an absolute minimum and that any required work be carried out at a time when traffic levels are at their lowest, be it evenings or weekends.

“Being one of the busiest junctions in the town it is vital that the ongoing work is completed as soon as possible and normal service can resume.

Department for Regional Development said: “The £225,000 improvements scheme began at this busy junction in March and, as we indicated in the press, is likely to continue until mid to late April.

“During improvements of this type delays are unavoidable, however, the Department is grateful to residents and visitors to the town who have demonstrated patience and understanding while the work has been taking place.

“The scheme, which has been called for by local elected representatives, is well advanced and not withstanding any unexpected delays, such as severe weather, is on schedule to be completed on time. It will bring road safety benefits, with improved facilities for vulnerable road users and better junction coordination for all road users.”
